Buying ram for my comp

Post  Rplix on Thu Nov 04, 2010 8:04 am

So, I bought two 516mb ram sticks for my comp and work fine. For this christmas, I want to get two more sticks but this time 1gb each. Do all of the ram sticks have to be the same size? Or can I mix them up a bit? My computer can hold 4 slots so thats not a problem. The maximum amount of memory is 4gb so im good there too. There are 4 connectors to my motherboard that go in order from left to right white black white black. I have my 516mb sticks in the white slots. What is the difference between the white and black and will it work with this order from left to right: 516mb, 1gb, 516mb, 1gb. If none of you have built your own computer then dont feel forced to post back on this topic. Thanks for the help and merry christmas! (in 2 months)

Merry almost Christmas to ya too. My father has actually built a computer, so I'll try to ask him later and see if I can help. I'll just edit the post if I do.

You can mix and match the sizes of the ram, as well as the speeds, but the socket type must remain the same.

You can't mix DDR and DDR2, for instance; However, you can mix DDR2 800 and DDR 667 without any problem
